A New Year means a year full of possibilities. This year I have so many exciting things planned including my wedding (eek!), multiple vacations, including two international trips, a month at Disney in the summer and so much more. This past week, I have been getting organized and prepared for the year ahead. Check out some things I've found that help me.
The first thing to do is take down your Christmas decor. I have a three piece artificial tree and I never knew how to store it. I saw this storage bin at The Container Store that said it could store a collapsed 7ft tree. I was skeptical and didn't want to pay $35 so I decided to pass. Then I saw it on sale at Target and decided to commit. I was pleasantly surprised that my entire 7ft tree fit in the bin with extra room for additional decor.
The most obvious organizational necessity is a planner. I know many people that like to keep all their appointments and meetings on their iPhone but I prefer to write everything down, I think it helps me better remember. I love this Planner Folio by May Designs at Target. I like to keep notes and stickers in the front pocket for easy access. The planner has a weekly layout with a section for "To-Do" and "Errands" that I love. I keep all of my dates and plans color coded for easy organization.
I have been wanting to try packing cubes for a while and was so excited when I got these as a gift for Christmas. I was traveling to Wilmington for New Years so I got to try them out. I will never travel without them ever again. I kept all of my pants, jeans and skirts in one cube. Dresses in one and tops and sweaters in another. I always knew where to find what I was looking for during my stay. I have a question for those that use packing cubes already, after you wear something, do you put it in a dirty clothes bag or put it back in the original packing cube? This girl needs answers!
I have always stored my shoes in their original shoe boxes and I've liked it to protect them but they don't always stack up well and sometimes I forget what shoe is in what box. I found these shoe boxes from The Container Store. They're clear so you can see what shoe you're looking for and since they're are all the same bin they stack really easily. Heels and wedges get stored in their own bins. I can usually fit two pairs of flats in one and I can fit multiple pairs of sandals in one too. I put all of my slides in one bin and all of my Jack Rogers in another. Sneakers are the only thing I didn't box up because I reach for them everyday.
I recently watched "Master the Mess" on Directv and fell in love with The Home Edit even more than I already was. Their organizational projects are serious goals. I decided to tackle my bathing room storage. I have cans, bottles and jars galore under my sink and was always digging for what I needed. I looked at the bathroom bins while I was at The Container Store but they were so expensive because they were made exclusively for bathroom storage. I decided to venture back to the shoe storage and grabbed 4 of the "Tall Shoe Box" to organize my products. I sorted through everything and organized them in their appropriate bins. Since they stack so well I was able to use more vertical space which meant I had so much more space for anything else. My four bins are Hair, Body, Face and Nails.
This really isn't an organizational product but it has been a huge game changer. For those longer haired girls out there, cleaning the hair out of your drain or using Drano one a month is such a pain. I used to go through more bottles of Drano than shampoo. I saw this handy tool the other day and had to try it. OMG! My life is changed! It collects all your hair and then at the end of the week you just grab a tissue to take out the collected hair and throw it away. Piece of cake! If you use Drano like it's your job, give this little guy a try.

Yesterday, I went to an event at Dillard's in The Florida Mall hosted by InStyle Magazine and Vionic Shoes. Melanie Pace, On Air Style Expert, Fashion Stylist and Blogger, and Alexis Bennett from InStyle Magazine, shared why they love Vionic Shoes. The event was about #DiscoverTheSecret and the secret is that fashion doesn't have to be uncomfortable. Vionic creates comfortable shoes that you can wear all day that are just as stylish.
They also shared five trends to try this spring featuring Vionic shoes.

Overall, I had a great afternoon talking fashion with other talented women all while getting a fresh eye makeup look and some macarons. Plus, I got to put a face to the name of a blogger friend, Coffee with Kylie. You can check out her blog here.

As you all know, I LOVE SHOPPING! I like digging through racks in search of a FABULESS FIND or something that stands out in a crowd. When you go through my closet you will find mostly statement pieces. What you won't find are many wardrobe staples. In 2018, I am going to focus on purchasing pieces that every wardrobe should include. These classic pieces are all so versatile.

The holidays are not only our merriest months but also our most expensive. Here are a few tips and tricks to save you some money while traveling. 1. Always bring an empty water bottle in your carry-on
I always grab my Tervis or Swell water bottle to throw in my carry-on. Once you get through security you can fill it at a water fountain. It's important to stay hydrated on planes and bottled water at the airport is never less than $5. 2. Clean out your fridge If I will be gone for a week or longer, I try and clean out the items in my fridge or pantry that will go bad. Left over berries? Instead of throwing them out, put them in a plastic container and have them on your plane as a snack. Bananas and granola are always easy options too. This will keep you from spending money at the snack counter as well as eating healthy. 3. Keep the mini hotel shampoos and conditioners My family thinks I'm crazy for collecting hotel shampoos and conditioners. I have a gallon size ziploc filled with them. Going to an Airbnb for a weekend and not sure if they will have soap, bring some hotel minis. Going to your grandparent's and don't want to use his Head and Shoulders, bring some hotel minis. Run out of conditioner at home, use a left over hotel mini. 4. Get TSA Pre-Check Now TSA Pre-Check is more FABULOUS than FABULESS but I can't tell you how many times it has saved my butt. It's $85 and lasts five years. You don't have to take your shoes or jackets off. You don't need to take out your laptop. Plus, the line is never longer than five minutes. Splurge your money and save your time! 5. Layers, layers, layers There is nothing worse than freezing on your entire flight or having to spend $25 for some tacky airport sweatshirt. Bundle up before you leave for the airport so you have the option to shed some layers if you want. 6. Stock up on entertainment I always bring magazines, a book, my laptop and headphones during flights. You never know how long you're going to be stuck at the airport and I get bored easily. If you come prepared with your own entertainment then you won't need to buy a new book in the gift shop. I hope these travel tips help you save some time and money during your holiday travels. Enjoy your time with family and friends and I will see you in 2018. Merry Christmas!! Saving money and getting a discount is my favorite part of shopping. I love seeing how much money I saved on the bottom of my receipt. Unfortunately, I feel there is this negative connotation that comes with asking about store offered discounts. Let me tell you, there is no shame in asking what discounts stores offer. There are so many different kinds of discounts that stores offer, so here is a list of some of the most common. Hopefully one will apply to you.
Employee Discount You typically get a discount at the restaurant, retailer, company, etc., you work at. Here in Orlando, there are many businesses that will provide a discount for Disney Cast Members including various restaurants and shops. Some of my favorite Disney Cast Member Discounts stores are MAC, Blaze Pizza, and Origins. Student/Teacher I was so sad when I graduated college and was no longer able to receive my student discount at J.Crew. Military/First Responder Discount The men and women that protect and serve our country deserve all the discounts for their sacrifice and hard work. Residential Discount There is a variety of residential discounts from state wide (i.e. Florida Resident Discount) to city wide (i.e. Celebration Resident Discount). My apartment complex even receives 25% off at our local Papa Johns. WOO! Club Member Discount I always get notifications from my AAA App when I'm near a store that offers a AAA discount. I challenge you to see how much money you can save next time you're shopping. |
