This holiday season many of us will be traveling over the river and through the woods. The holidays are not only our merriest months but also our most expensive. Here are a few tips and tricks to save you some money while traveling. 1. Always bring an empty water bottle in your carry-on
I always grab my Tervis or Swell water bottle to throw in my carry-on. Once you get through security you can fill it at a water fountain. It's important to stay hydrated on planes and bottled water at the airport is never less than $5. 2. Clean out your fridge If I will be gone for a week or longer, I try and clean out the items in my fridge or pantry that will go bad. Left over berries? Instead of throwing them out, put them in a plastic container and have them on your plane as a snack. Bananas and granola are always easy options too. This will keep you from spending money at the snack counter as well as eating healthy. 3. Keep the mini hotel shampoos and conditioners My family thinks I'm crazy for collecting hotel shampoos and conditioners. I have a gallon size ziploc filled with them. Going to an Airbnb for a weekend and not sure if they will have soap, bring some hotel minis. Going to your grandparent's and don't want to use his Head and Shoulders, bring some hotel minis. Run out of conditioner at home, use a left over hotel mini. 4. Get TSA Pre-Check Now TSA Pre-Check is more FABULOUS than FABULESS but I can't tell you how many times it has saved my butt. It's $85 and lasts five years. You don't have to take your shoes or jackets off. You don't need to take out your laptop. Plus, the line is never longer than five minutes. Splurge your money and save your time! 5. Layers, layers, layers There is nothing worse than freezing on your entire flight or having to spend $25 for some tacky airport sweatshirt. Bundle up before you leave for the airport so you have the option to shed some layers if you want. 6. Stock up on entertainment I always bring magazines, a book, my laptop and headphones during flights. You never know how long you're going to be stuck at the airport and I get bored easily. If you come prepared with your own entertainment then you won't need to buy a new book in the gift shop. I hope these travel tips help you save some time and money during your holiday travels. Enjoy your time with family and friends and I will see you in 2018. Merry Christmas!!
